Why not start the new year off right with a little bit of art and culture? One of the best museums in the world, the Prado, is offering some great events in January and they’re free. Here’s what’s going on next month:
1. Permanent Collection
Starting January 10th – Tuesdays at 17.00 and Wednesdays at 11.00

From the Prado website: The present work, is a beautiful view set in the Roman city of Benevento in the Campania region of Italy. The manner in which it reflects the innovative intellectual approach to classical monuments characteristic of travellers at this period reveals the evolution of Joli’s architectural landscapes during his trip with Lord Brudenell.
2. Miniature Collection at the Prado
Starting January 12th – Thursdays at 17.00 (sign up begins 15 minutes before and has a 25 person limit)
3. “El Hermitage” in the Prado
The Prado has a fantastic exposition right now called The Hermitage. Its a collaboration between the Spanish museum and San Petersburg’s State Society for Cultural Action. They’re offering a brief tour of the works for visitors.
Starting January 9th – Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11.00 / Wednesdays at 17.00 .
4. Luca Giordano’s Painted Vault – Grand Salon of Buen Retiro
El Casón del Buen Retiro is offering free visits and a guide tour of the painted vault by Luca Giordano.
Every Sunday at 12.00. (sign up 30 minutes before the tour begins – 20 person limit). Tour begins at the Jerónimos building.
5. One work. One artist.
Every weekend, there will be a guided tour dedicated to a certain artist or theme. January is dedicated to the work of Eduardo Rosales’ Doña Isabel la Católica dictando su testamento.
Starting January 21st – Saturdays 12:30, 16:00 y 17:30 / Sundays 11:00, 12:30 y 16:00
6.The Prado Speaks
Various Prado employees will give talks on their own experience at the museum, speaking on their favorite works of art, stories about the museum, etc.
