Am I the only one who thinks that time is just flying by? May was here for a flash and now, we’re already welcoming June. For me, June means terraces and sun and counting down the days until the beach. But, for those of us who are in Madrid for the month of June, there’s a bunch of saucy stuff going on to keep you occupied:
Paint Glow Madrid – Just when you were sitting around wondering, “Man, where in the world could I find an all night day-glow paint war?” here comes Paint Glow Madrid, June 22nd in Vincente Calderón stadium. 15€ and you’re good to go in “Europe’s largest paint party”.
Madrid on Bike – Saturday or Sunday morning is the perfect time for the Madrid Bike Tour organized by City Hall. If you’ve never cruised down the middle of Acalá in mid-morning before the traffic starts, I highly recommend it. Also nice was the drunk, toothless man who chased me down Las Huertas while trying to keep up with the tour guide. Oh, this city never ceases to surprise!
Edward Hopper at the Thyssen Museum – A few years ago, someone asks me about my favorite American artist and I eloquently said, “huh?” A few years later, I saw a Hopper exhibition in Rome and fell in love. Go there and fall in Hopper love like I did.
Coño! The Europe Cup! – Forget everything I just mentioned. Why bother leaving the house when the Europe Cup is here? And guess who already has their cheap Thai-factory-made-knock-off Spanish Football Jersey? That’s right – me!! No Puyol this year, but I still have high, high hopes!!!
* Honorable Mentions
- Photo España June 6th – July 22nd | Various places in Madrid
- Madrid Foto – June 7- June 10th | Matadero Madrid
- Feria del Libro – May 25th – June 10th | Retiro
- Gay Pride! – June 27th – July 1st | Gran Via and Chueca
So, this should be enough to keep us all busy this month, no?

Am heading to Madrid in a few hours. Thanks for this – I’ve actually never been to the Thyssen!
Hi Cat,
Funny that you commented just now because I tried to comment on your bullfighting post earlier, but something went wrong. I loved your photos! We recently went to rejones in Las Ventas and I was too much of a sissy to publish my photos. I feel so bad for liking bullfighting, but I do! And thanks for the picmonkey recommendation! I hadn’t heard of that site before and I need a good one since picnik was bought by stupid google.
And you’re going to love the Thyssen – its my favorite museum by far.
I’ll be there for Hopper, too. He’s also my favorite. Good tips!
Thanks, Shawn! I’ll be there as soon as it opens, but I’m gonna try my hardest to avoid the crowds!
There’re so many cool events this month!
Although I thought there were a ton of buyers at the feria del libro, it turns out that sales were donw 19%!! (http://blogs.elpais.com/papeles-perdidos/2012/06/se-busca-nueva-feria-del-libro-de-madrid.html)
Thanks for all these tips–I’ll be out of town for the Paint Glow fest, unfortunately, but your blog was the first to inform me about the Hopper exhibit.
I think I might be the only one who doesn’t like the feria del libro? I’m a huge browser and when there are soooo many people, that’s just impossible. But, I do feel bad that sales were low because I do think its a great event…
